Time your visit around a keeper talk, that is when the place comes alive and the kids learn the most. The big Nile crocodiles stop everyone in their tracks.

Crocodiles of the World near Brize Norton is the only crocodile zoo in the UK and a strong rainy-day option because the main attractions are indoors and heated. The collection includes Nile crocodiles, alligators, caimans and other crocodilians, alongside snakes, lizards, tortoises and a few other animals. Daily talks and feeding sessions are the highlight, when keepers explain the animals up close.

The site is compact and warm, which makes it manageable with toddlers and easy to do in a couple of hours. Children are usually fascinated by the size of the larger crocodiles and the close-up viewing through glass. There is a small outdoor area and a play space, plus seasonal animal handling sessions for those who want to get closer to the smaller reptiles.

It is a focused visit rather than a full day, so it pairs well with somewhere else nearby or a picnic in the grounds. Check the daily talk times on arrival.

Good for: animals, rainy-day, sensory. Ages: 3–4, 5–7, 8–11, 12+.
