Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham is one of the largest heated outdoor pools in the country, a much-loved art-deco lido set in its own grounds. The big heated main pool is the centrepiece, with a separate children's pool and a shallow paddling pool for the youngest, so there is somewhere safe for every age. On a warm day the grassed surrounds fill with families settling in for hours.
Around the pools there are wide lawns for sunbathing and picnics, a cafe, and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that makes it a proper summer day out rather than just a swim. It opens seasonally, broadly from late spring to early autumn, and gets busy on hot days, so arriving early or booking sessions where required is wise. There may be inflatable and fun sessions at times.
It suits all ages, from babies in the paddling pool to confident older swimmers in the main pool. Pack as you would for a day at an outdoor pool and claim a patch of grass early.
